Juicy Learning

with Mrs. Van Dyke
I'm BACK! After spending almost 10 lovely weeks with my new daughter, *Harper Elena, I am finally back to the classroom. Mrs. Olson was such a great long-term sub. and I'm so thankful I didn't have to worry while I was away. I hope you enjoyed The Amazing Race and are ready to end the year synthesizing all that we have tried to learn this year. In 7th and 8th grade we will be focusing on a "non-traditional" literature circle. By "non-traditional" I mean there will not be the typical roles that students seem to have completed along with lit. circles in the past. We will focus on how to have an authentic and meaningful discussion about a common text.
8th graders will take it a step further and add blogging to the mix as an outlet for thoughts and hopefully further discussion when students meet face to face. I'm excited about this unit, and I hope students find it to be fun as well.
*Harper IS named after Harper Lee (sort of) the author of the great To Kill a Mockingbird. And, we (well, my husband) happen to be huge Buddy Holly fans as well. "Elena" was his wife's middle name--Maria Elena Holly. A combination of our favorites.
